UPDATE 21/11/2020: Due to nationwide Lockdown, the restaurant is currently closed however we offer our Takeaway service during this period. We are due to re-open on Thursday, 3 December 2020. Any reservations you may have with us in December are going ahead as planned for time being. As we are not sure what Covid alert Essex will be in after the lockdown therefore we will continue to apply high Covid alert restrictions to all incoming reservations – mixing of household inside is not allowed. Covered and heated Terrace seating is available for mixed households. Rule of six applies to outdoor spaces as well as social distancing rules and curfew at 10pm. The Chequers will operate strictly maximum of 6 people per table. This includes any children or babies. Wearing face covering is compulsory at all times in the restaurant except for sitting down to eat or drink. Anyone exempt from wearing the mask, please have your exempt badge ready upon arrival. Please note, The Chequers operates no children under 12 years old (including babies) policy after 6pm on Friday and Saturday. Children of all ages are welcome at any other time.
We welcome special requests for certain areas or tables and we will do our best to accommodate these however please be advised requests can not be guaranteed unless confirmed with the restaurant directly. If you require more information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Celebration cakes and decorations
You’re more then welcome to bring your own cake or decorations. There is no charge for this service. Celebration cakes will be served after desserts. Balloons are allowed however we do not allow for table confetti, party poppers or banners.
We have a smart dress code at The Chequers in the evenings. No flip flops, no sportswear, no baseball cups.
It is against the law to smoke in these premises. Out of respect to other customers, smoking is also not permitted on our terraces. This also applies to e-cigarettes.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, dogs are allowed in the bar area or in the garden. Please note, dogs are not allowed in the restaurant or on the terrace. Please, call the restaurant direct to confirm table availability in the bar.
Our front entrance, the bar, disabled bathroom and dining room are all on one level. Although the terrace and some parts of the garden are difficult to navigate, please do call ahead so we can make your visit as hassle free as possible.
We have a car park for up to 30 cars. There is no charge for parking. Additional parking is available off-road.
Credit/Debit card details may be required to secure your reservation. A deposit of £10 per person will be charged at the time of booking. The deposit is non-refundable in the event of a Cancellation or a No-show.

We accept cash, American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Google Pay, Apple Pay and contactless. Sorry, we don’t accept cheques.
